To My Dearest Puppy
Potshangbam Nyaydhar *
Still remember the day,
Lifeless your body laid.
Tough in a world of speechlessness,
Unmoved you slept.
Yet the pain still lingers in me,
Truly the pangs of separation,
Knocking me every now and then.
A summer evening it was,
Back from school I was.
Silently all sobbed in despair,
Their eyes flooding in tears.
In bewilder,
I was lost.
Hardly could I guess the reason,
For them to sob.
Amidst my bewilderness,
Beneath our khajoor tree,
Surrounded with Cardboard,
Indeed a play camp I saw.
Near it I went,
To find what's inside.
Inside there lay in still,
Your breathless body - My Dearest Puppy.
Near unconscious did I stand,
Curiously yearning for a hug.
But to no avail,
As you'd gone forever,
Minutes B'fore I reached.
The memory of the sight,
Already sealed in my brain.
Like the Great Ashoka tree,
For a thousand year to grow.
