Three rain catchers feted
In commemoration of the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi’s nationwide campaign on Jal Shakti Abhiyan, the Lilong Haoreibi College, Thoubal District, Manipur has also been organising a series of activities under the theme ‘Catch the Rain: where it falls, when it falls’ which was launched from the 29th March 2022.
As the seasonal rainfall has begun during the last a few days, the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), the NSS Units, NCC and Youth Red Cross Units of the College revamped the activities by organising rain water harvesting programme today the 11th May 2022 along with a lecture cum painting competition on the theme Catch the Rain.
As a part of the programme three rain catchers of the college viz Tarique Nasir of BSc 4th Semester, Ashique Elahi of BSc 6th Semester and Sm. Imtiyas of BSc 2nd Semester who successfully caught the rainwater through their innovative harvesting mechanism and collected in the big pond of the college have been feted for their voluntary services. The cash awards were handed over to the three rain catchers by the Principal of the College Dr. Raheijuddin Sheikh immediately after accomplishment of their dedicated services.
Later, a lecture programme cum painting competition were held in the college multipurpose hall. Importance of collecting rainwater were highlighted in the lectures delivered by Dr. L. Sanahabi Devi of the Zoology Department and Dr. Tanuja Devi of the Environmental Sciences.
Sheikh Zakiya Banu and Ashique Elahi of the BA 6th Semester jointly stood first position in the painting competition, Soniya Hassan Samsad Sajina of BA 2nd Semester won the second prize and, Dolaipabam Anju and KA Rafique of BA second semester won the third prize.
