The Sun and the Cloud
K. Radhakumar *
Ages ago
Came some gods from heaven
To the earth
The abode of human beings.
There in heaven
Everything was beautiful
And nobody told lies.
There white doves cooed sweetly
And there was no fear of a nuclear holocaust.
Came also some devils from hell
To the earth
About the same time.
Hell was just the opposite of heaven.
It was dark and ugly;
It was one hell of a place
Where bad people were transported after death.
They came
And never returned to their native lands.
They died in the course of time
But their spirits lived on
And they were accused of contaminating
The minds of human beings
The original inhabitants of the earth.
A naked reality was born
And we had prostitutes HIV patients crooks
Philanthropists academicians scientists
Beautiful women like the late Elizabeth Taylor.
Since times immemorial
Human beings were condemned to live with
Gods and devils;
And human beings
The offspring of the naked reality
Were left to their own free will.
The choice is clear:
The primrose path
Or a heaven on earth!
