The Rain Kept Pouring Down
Jodha Chandra Sanasam *
The rain poured down heavy,
cascaded everywhere,
it continued on and on,
the fuzzy visage of the Shelloi Hill,
its eyes closed tight,
loomed like misty shadows
enduring the shower slashing down,
the Langol Hill too remained silent
the rain kept splattering on their faces.
I asked them:
How long would you suffer?
Couldn't you shout?
Come on, holler out,
'Stop! You rain! Stop!'
They didn't answer back
remained silent, both of them.
The peril came to me too
those who proclaimed
they were for my protection
began to strangulate me.
I yelled, hollered aloud
I yelled, hollered aloud:
Don't kill me
don't kill me
I don't want to die yet
I don't want to die yet
I don't want to die like this
I don't want to die like this.
Nobody heard my scream
nobody bothered;
both Shelloi Hill and Langol Hill
they remained standing, quiet and nonchalant
their eyes closed in the rain.
The rain kept pouring down
cascaded down everywhere
continued to splatter
on and on.
