The Moments Which I Love
Jodha Chandra Sanasam *
Love's wine, poison's potion
that you serve me with
I'm drinking them to my fulfillment;
words take to singing in my heart, in my head;
O words! Wear your garments attractive
dance to the unhurried rhythm;
charge me with sadness, bring tears in my eyes;
O night! I get intoxicated in these moments
and you become my best friend.
It's not poison you offer,
to me it's sweet nectar of love
and I'm fond of it.
One plea I got to supplicate to you
may it be grape juice wine or poison
do not serve me with concoction of self pity.
O night! My dear friend!
The day you serve me with that kind
you shall be no more a friend to me.
I had drowned there in that sea of nettling water;
I scrambled up; and now I'm on the shore.
Listen, the neighbourhood dogs
in this endless strip of lane, have started to bark,
accosting each other and gathering in packs
pandemonium filling in the air quiet;
you haven't stopped offering me love's poison yet.
The taste so savoury and my tears welling up
then I smile with a bliss of gratitude
as the tender fingers of love's poison
begin to caress me now
then come the moments which I love
Ah! I love it so,
for me to say it's my poem.
