The Lull before the Storm
- Deep from the Soul -
K. Radhakumar *
A man in a boat
Sails across the water
Night and day.
Deep in the water,
Loneliness is his constant companion.
'I'd love to have friends,' says he.
Love, dear friend, is a necessity.
At night, the lone moon
And thousands of stars shine in the sky
And the water is calm.
But there is no way of knowing
If it is far to the beach or not.
Sometimes, the night is dark –
The waves roar
And the sky is likely to crumble.
I know
There's nobody out there.
Still, the night
Looks for things which are not.
Do I imagine things, I wonder.
The man in a boat
Wakes to a clear morning.
The sound of oars dipping,
Wavelets dancing
And water lapping against the boat –
A charming piece of music!
The remnant of a forgotten reality!
I remember my immediate past
Not all, not all;
But far off things – never
Yes, the man in a boat
Sails across the water,
Rain or shine.
So far, so good.
Every night is not an ordinary night
Every day is not an ordinary day
For the storm breaks
After a brief musical interlude
And the man does a rapid manoeuvre
And avoids the boat from being capsized
And the world from being turned upside down.
