Terror in India has different classifications
Seven Sisters Post | PP Singh | June 2 :
Not only intellectuals but the government machinery also has different classifications and solutions for terrorist activities. The government of India did not hesitate before using the Indian Air Force to strafe Aizawl from March 5 to 12, 1966, in order to curb insurgency in the sensitive northeastern region of Mizoram.
While the army is being used extensively to curb militancy in entire northeast, the Union government started large-scale withdrawal of army troops from Jammu and Kashmir during 2009 to, in the words of Union minister of new and renewable sources of energy and former J&K chief minister Farooq Abdullah, “ease tension and herald the beginning of peace and development in the state”. It is worth mentioning that the Northeast and J&K are covered under Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, but the approaches in tackling terror in the two regions continue to be different.
