Taxation check posts on NHs in Manipur removed

Manipur government has removed taxation check posts along the stretch of the national highways with the extension of Goods and Service Tax (GST) in the state. GST came into force in Manipur from July 1 last. GST Act has no provision to keep taxation check-posts operational even though these check-posts have been main points for collection of casual taxes by state governments.
Earlier, goods transported to Manipur through the highways were checked at taxation check posts to verify if the transporters have paid taxes for the goods they are transporting. Until the GST was enforced, taxation check posts at Hengbung in Senapati along NH-2, Jiribam on NH-37 and Moreh on NH-102 used to check the vehicles and collect the taxes..
