Tamenglong Battalion celebrated Army Day
On 15 Jan 1949 General KM Cariappa (Later Field Marshal) took over as the Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army from General Sir Francis Robert Roy Bucher. He was the last English Commander of the Indian Army. It was on this day that the first Indian General took charge of the Indian Army. To commemorate this day every year Indian Army celebrates 15 Jan as Army Day for the last 74 years.
On this occasion the nation salutes the invincible grit, courage, valour and dedication of all the soldiers of the country. To commemorate this day 44 Assam Rifles under the aegis of Headquarters 22 Sector AR/ IGAR(East) organised a grand function at district headquarters, Tamenglong.
To salute the valiant soldiers who sacrificed their lives to protect the country and its citizens a befitting wreath laying ceremony was organised. The Veterans & Veer Naries from Tamenglong joined the Commandant and all ranks in the celebrations & paying their tribute to the valiant heroes of Indian Army.
Patriotic songs and band display filled the environment with patriotic fervour. The stellar performance of the troops of the Battalion during the cultural programme establish a deep cultural connect among the citizens witnessing the event which epitomized the prevalent concept of “Unity in Diversity” and “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat”.
The Commandant, 44 Assam Rifles also extended his warm greetings & best wishes to all people from The Zeliangrong region on the auspicious & joyous occasion of Gann Ngai festival. A stall on local crafts of the area, depicting the rich heritage of the area was also on display for the veterans.
He called upon all citizens for constructive contribution towards nation building. Maj G Kamei (Retd), Senior most Veteran from the town along with Secratary, ESM cut the cake & reciprocated the best wishes on behalf of Veterans. An information stall wrt various entries to join Indian Army was put on display for the visitors.
Certainly these job opportunities amid Covid restrictions would bring a ray of hope on grim faces in these far flung areas of Manipur. An interactive session with veterans was also organised to address their grievances.
