Students seek 'alternative answers' to power crisis
The Telegraph | Imphal, April 5:
The unprecedented power crisis in Manipur has ignited its young minds to look for alternative sources of energy. This fact was reflected in a science exhibition organised for school children by the school education department.
“We only get a few hours of power. This has seriously affected our studies. So I started looking for an alternative source of power other than that supplied by the government. My model may not be able to generate enough power but I am trying,” said Chingakham Prabhashori, a Class X student from Thoubal.
Prabhashori’s model displayed how energy can be generated from potatoes using zinc and copper plates connected with copper wires. “A big potato can supply power to an LED bulb for half an hour,” she said.
