Special Briefing Meeting of CSCHR on the second UPR of India in Geneva
- 2nd June 2012 -
- HRA Office, Kwakeithel Thiyam Leikai, Imphal -
You are cordially invited to a Special Briefing Meeting of the CSCHR on the second Universal Periodic Review of India at the UN in Geneva on 24 May 2012 and the adoption of the draft Report of the UPR Working Group on India on 30 May 2012 is being convened at the office of Human Rights Alert (HRA), in Kwakeithel Thiyam Leikai, Imphal, on Saturday, 2nd June 2012 at 11 AM.
CSCHR had submitted a joint stakeholder report Status of Human Rights in Manipur which gives an overview of the most critical human rights issues in Manipur today. It had been drafted as a background document to assist in the preparation of India’s second UPR that took place in Geneva on 24 May, 2012.
A two-member CSCHR delegation was present at the UN Human Rights Council for India’s UPR. The review was marked by duplicity and repeated denial of human rights challenges in the country, and a mere echoing of domestic laws, policies and Constitutional provisions by the Government of India (GoI).
The 169 recommendations from 80 state delegations formulated during the interactive dialogue of the UPR will be examined by India who will provide its responses in due time, but no later than September 2012.
Please be on time.
