CALLS FOR INSTITUTIONALIZATION OF PEOPLE’S COLLECTIVE POWER!
North-East Forum for International Solidarity (NEFIS) today participated in a Solidarity Meet at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi in support of the ongoing Sri Lankan people’s movement. The meet was organized on the occasion of 100th day of the historic Galle Face Protest in Colombo, which has spearheaded the ‘Janatha Aragalaya’ or people’s struggle in Sri Lanka. Solidarity meets were also organized by NEFIS in Manipur and Assam.
The protest which started in Sri Lanka against the current political and economic regime has completely exposed the phenomenon which can be observed worldwide. It should be noted that economic precarity and political chicanery is a phenomenon prevalent across the world, and people’s movements have arisen against the dominant economic classes and the ruling elites.
Sri Lankan struggle is an important link in the chain of such struggles around the globe. As such, it symbolizes people’s power to dismantle the dominant anti-people political and economic structures, and stands as inspiration for the people’s movements worldwide for a society based on equality and social justice.
NEFIS expresses its solidarity with the struggling people of Sri Lanka and their demands that the current Acting President, Ranil Wickremesinghe should be immediately ousted, and people’s collective power which has emerged during the present struggle should be institutionalised in the form of People’s Assemblies.
