Signature Campaign
Soibam Haripriya *
He asked me "MCS macha ama siraga, signature louriba karigino"
I wished it was him who died
Carrying all his ignorance
Lest it spreads around
Like the loud drums of Thabal
Calling out all Manipuris
From nook and corner of Delhi
Tomba, chaoba sitting next to an MP
All of them arrived on time
Seated on the first bench
Eyes glazed on the Thabal
Got afflicted with the MP's disease
Pretended not to see
The papers under his nose
Thinking- how can we betray our provider?
I saw them leave
His car gliding smoothly on the way out
Cushioned by the tarmac
That smooth was his transition
From one homeland to another
In Rajendra Prasad Road
He need not find his way
Navigating craters on the leirak sorok
leading to his house
One a hostile night,
Moonless and dark with load shedding
Dust kicked from the thabal ground
Covered my paper in a layer of dust.
I caught hold of a crowd
Tried to explain those plain pages
With the thabal's music
Drowning my voice
The crowd complacent in ignorance
Danced to the drum beats yet again
