Today, on 18th November 2006, a press conference was held at Shija Hospitals and Research Institute, Langol on the occasion of the hospital attaining the coveted ISO 9001:2000 certification.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Kh. Palin, CMD, Shija Hospitals and Research Institute, narrated the series of activities the hospital undertook from the beginning towards going in for the final audit. The ISO certification idea started 2 years back and the actual implementation to streamline the process according to the ISO standards started since 1st January 2006. the certificate for ISO 9001:2000 was awarded by BSI, Kolkata on 28th October 2006 vide their certificate number FS 506514.
The independent final audit for the certification was conducted by a team of auditors from the BSI (British Standards Institution), Kolkata from 10th to 13th October 2006.
Dr. Kh. Palin quoted "This is not the end, it is just the beginning". He mentioned that the BSI, Kolkata will conduct a surveillance audit every six month to study the hospital adherence to the ISO laid down Quality Management System standards. Continuous improvement in the Quality Management System is to be maintained in order to validate the certificate issued by the BSI.
Citing the need for the ISO certification, the CMD mentioned that with the increase in the size of hospital and its services there is an urgent need for having a credible ad reliable process in the hospital.
The implemented process when certified by a third party auditor like BSI it becomes all the more credible, thereby it will contribute in building the trust of the patients and the patient party. It will also contribute in the hospital going global with its services, as it is assured that the output of the hospital is a quality service.
Dr. L. Krishnamani, Consultant General Surgeon of the hospital, who was an activate participant of the entire Quality Management System implementation speaking on the occasion cited that since the hospital is now an ISO 9001:2000 certified hospital, it will be easier for the people to choose among the quality hospitals. The services we render are now certified that we are at par with the hospitals in the metros.
Answering to a query by a pressman, Dr. Kh. Palin, declared that we are the first hospital or any other organization in the state to be certified for ISO 9001:2000, it is a historically significant milestone in the healthcare set up. He also responded that there is no question of increasing the charges of the hospital after being certified by the ISO.
