Seminar weighs army act compulsions

For Col (retd) D.P.K. Pillay, the controversial Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958, could be withdrawn from the Northeast only if the state machinery can handle law and order.
Pillay was sharing his thoughts on the issue at a two-day seminar on Unravelling the Political, Economic and Security Influence in Northeast India and its Impact on the Nuance of India-Myanmar Border Management that began today on the Assam Rifles premises in Laitkor, about 20km from here.
