National Lok Adalat at High court
As per the calendar of National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), the Manipur State Legal Services Authority in association with High Court Legal Services Committee and District Legal Services Authorities organized the second National Lok Adalat for the year, 2022 on 14th May, 2022 at various places across the state.
National Lok Adalat for Imphal East and West district is jointly organized by Manipur State Legal Services Authority in association with Imphal East & Imphal West District Legal Services Authorities at Lamphel Court Complex. National Lok Adalat is also held at Bishnupur, Thoubal, Ukhrul, Senapati, Churachandpur, Chandel, Tamenglong, Tengnoupal & Jiribam districts and in the High Court of Manipur.
In today’s National Lok Adalat for Imphal East and Imphal West district, 5(five) benches which comprises of Judicial Officers and Advocates were constituted. The Lok Adalat was conducted in physical/offline mode for all pending court cases as well as pre-litigation cases. Cases relating to bank recovery, civil disputes, family matters (except divorce), insurance matters, domestic violence cases, BSNL bill cases, NI Act (cheque bouncing cases) were put up today.
The High Court Legal Services Committee also organized National Lok Adalat at High Court of Manipur complex in which one Bench comprising of Smt. G. Gaiphulshillu, Registrar General, High Court of Manipur as Chairperson, Shri Yumkham Rother, Registrar (Judl.), High Court of Manipur & Shri K. Brajakumar Sharma, Joint Director, Manipur Judicial Academy as Members was constituted. For the National Lok Adalat held at High Court of Manipur, 6 Civil cases were put up and out of which, 1 Civil Revision Petition case have been settled with a total settlement amount of Rs. 22.00 lakhs.

In the last National Lok Adalat held on 12th March, 2022, out of 443 cases taken up all across the State, 271 cases were disposed of with settlement amount of Rs.2,93,87,729 (Rupess Two Crores Ninety Three Lakhs Eighty Seven Thousand Seven Hundred and Twenty Nine) only.
This time, in the National Lok Adalat held today, a total of 573 cases were taken up out of which 461 cases which includes 25 cases pending in the courts including Motor Accident Claims Cases were settled. The total settled amount in today’s National Lok Adalat is Rs. 4,18,90,028/- (Rupees four crores eighteen lakh ninety tthousand and twenty-eight) only.
Hon’ble Mr. Justice Lanusungkum Jamir, Judge, High Court of Manipur & the Executive Chairman of Manipur State Legal Services Authority visited the National Lok Adalat held at Thoubal Court Complex for the districts of Thoubal & Kakching, and later at Lamphel Court Complex and interacted with the members of the Lok Adalat Bench as well as the parties. His Lordship lauded the efforts of the legal service authorities and thanked the general public and litigants for the huge turnout despite heavy rainfalls across the state.
It is to be mentioned that this is the second National Lok Adalat for the year, 2022 as per the Calendar prescribed by National Legal Services Authority. As per the calendar, the next National Lok Adalat will be held on 13th August, 2022.
MASLSA is thankful to the Presiding Officers, Judicial Officers, ld. Advocates, all the parties, Officials of Bank/ Insurance Companies, News and Print Media for making this programme a success.
It is also requested to all the News and Print Media to give wider dissemination of Lok Adalat as well as availability of legal services and Legal Services Institutions in general so that access to justice is enabled for all.
