Sanjit father offered cash to drop case
The Telegraph | Khelen Thokchom | Imphal, Feb. 21
The father of Chungkham Sanjit, a victim of alleged fake encounter killing, today disclosed that he was offered Rs 20 lakh for withdrawing his son's case. Sanjit's father Chungkham Khelen said a neighbour, identified as Takhelmayum Kenedy, a friend who is close to a Congress MLA, made the offer when the CBI started the investigation in 2009.
"Kenedy said he could arrange Rs 20 lakh. He said 'accept it, it can be used to construct a house and stop pursuing the case'. I told him I did not want the money. I did not ask him who would pay the money as I did not want to discuss the matter further. He also did not mention the details," Khelen told reporters here today.
