SANJENBAM BHANUMATI DEVI
KAVYABHUSAN(POSTHUMOUSLY)
Sanjenbam Bhanumati Devi was born on 12th October, 1948 at Sagolband Sayang Pukhri Mapal. She was the daughter of Sanjenbam Nadiya Singh and Sanjenbam ongbi Ibemshak Devi.
She studied up to BA and enter the teaching profession and later retired as a headmistress from Usha Bhawan school which was founded by her father with the help of their locality.
She enter the world of literature as a poet. She was also an approved lyricist of All India Radio Imphal. She evolve as a lyricist from a very young age.
Before her marriage, she was also a drama artist of Imphal Western Theatre.
Her published books includes
Khonjelsibu Nang-gira (Poems: 1982),
Kallaba Irei amada asum asum (Poems: 1991),
Aroiba Wahang (Poems: 2001),
Khunusing-gi Laanjel (2008), a Manipuri translation of Ruskin Bond’s novel “A Flight of Pijeons”.
She was an active member of Manipuri Sahitya Parishad as well as collaborated with many other organisations and worked hard for the betterment of Manipuri literature.
As a writer Sanjenbam Bhanumati Devi got many awards including, Sahitya Academy Translation Prize 2007 for her work Khunusing-gi Laanjel(A flight of pijeons), Tourangbam Chaoba Ningsing Sanagi Medal 2011(Oiragadra Aroiba) and Khaidem Pramodini Cash Prize.
In recognition of her contribution to Manipuri Literature, Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Imphal on their 83rd annual conference, awarded her the Kavyabhusan title posthumously.
