Lt Col Robert Memorial Badminton Tournament at Senapati
Red Shield Division under the aegis of Spear Corps organised Lt Col Robert TA Memorial Badminton Tournament at Rikhumai Indoor Badminton Hall, Senapati, Manipur from 07 to 10 January 2023. The tournament is being organised as an Annual event to commemorate the supreme sacrifice of Lt Col Robert in the line of duty.
The curtain raiser for the event was held on 04 January 2023 at Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Maram, the alma-mater of Lt Col Robert.
A total of 105 players from various age groups of Senapati District participated in the tournament.
Players played in undermentioned categories:
- Boys (Under 13 yrs both Singles and Double)
- Boys (Under 17 yrs Singles & Doubles)
- Women's Open (both Singles and Double)
- Men's Open (both Singles and Double)
- Mens (40 to 50 yrs both Singles and Double)
- Mens Veteran (Above 50 yrs both Singles and Double)
Commander Senapati Brigade felicitated Mrs Chingpai, wife of Lt Col (Late) Robert as the Special Guest for the closing ceremony and final match, which was witnessed by a large enthusiastic audience cheering on their favorites.
Local populace appreciated the rich tribute to their fallen hero and were sanguine that the conduct of the tournament provides a good platform for the budding shuttlers to showcase their skills and further enables the Badminton Association to identify players with potential for future coaching and opportunities for higher level competition.
