Ridiculous supposition of TR Zeliang
09th February 2018
Having failed to defeat the Lion inside his den, one KK Kulimbe invested Rs. 5000 with the intention of exhibiting his rare discovery that TR Zeliang, the Chief Ministerial Candidate of the Naga Peoples’ Front did not belong to a Scheduled Tribe. Pleading that the nomination of Zeliang from Peren Assembly Constituency be rejected for the forthcoming polls based on the new discovery, the Khristopher Kolumbus of Peren District attempted to hoodwink the election machinery. For obvious reasons, the mischievous plan failed and his baseless discovery was ignored with the contempt it deserved.
The soil of Peren District recognizes the forefathers of TR Zeliang, his family history and his political career spanning four decades. Zeliang hails from the village of Mbaupungwa, a satellite village of one of the oldest village in Zeliang area under Peren District called Nkialwa village. A hundred years back, his great grandfather Namso was the GB of Mbaupungwa village which is an undeniable and known fact.
The discovery of KK claiming that Zeliang does not belong to a Schedule Tribe is not only fake but ridiculous and is a monument of his misdirected energy, the outcome of which is self-defeating and condemnable.
In a similar way, KK pleaded that the nomination of Zeliang be rejected for the forthcoming polls based on another of his discovery related to Zeliang’s educational qualification. KK must realise, the sooner the better, that Zeliang never lied about his educational qualification in the nomination paper of 2013 but only declared that the highest educational qualification course that he studied was BA.
He never declared that he passed BA even as the contentions disputing this fact were not examined by the Peren Court which dismissed the complaint on ground that the limitation period expired. Even this time, Zeliang had mentioned clearly that he appeared in BA and failed. Zeliang stated the truth in the nomination papers of 2013 as well as 2018 and this puts to rest all controversies around his educational qualification.
He has been in political life since the late seventies of the last century. He contested Assembly polls in 1982, 1987, 1989, 1993, 1998, 2003, 2008 and 2013 of which he won the last 6 contests, some from Tening Assembly Constituency and some from Peren Assembly Constituency, both under Peren District, Nagaland.
He stood for Rajya Sabha elections and became MP, Rajya Sabha from 2004-2008. The Election Commission of India, the Chief Electoral Officers and Returning Officers of Nagaland, the Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, the Governors, the Union Home Ministry and several other authorities involved in the election of Zeliang, 6 times to the Legislative Assembly and one time to the Rajya Sabha, were never bombed by any revelation like the one hurled by the Zeliang Kolumbus who perhaps believed that such an attempt would scare the tall leader from his unwavering path.
