The Manipur poll verdict suggests in more ways than one that the Northeast has become wary of experimenting with its vote.
“There are many other factors that went in favour of the Congress in Manipur but the main factor is non-existence of Opposition parties. People wanted a stable government. The Congress won 27 of 60 seats in the 2002 election and led a coalition government with the CPI. The party position improved in the 2007 election, with the Congress winning 30 seats. This time, the party won absolute majority, with 42 seats.
