Regarding cut-off marks in St. Stephen's College
Date - 29th June 2019 , New Delhi
To,
The Principal,
St. Stephen's College,
University of Delhi.
Sub: Deep concern regarding cut-off marks in all disciplines in St. Stephen’s college against ST Christian Students’.
Respected Sir,
This is to bring to your knowledge that Naga Students’ Union, Delhi (NSUD) is the apex body of the Naga Students in Delhi and NCR, and is one of the biggest students’ organization in Delhi & National Capital Region.
As a body that ushers and cater the need of Students nurturing them for future career. Naga Students’ Union Delhi have a great concern regarding the recent cut-off for Christian ST applicants seeking admission in different disciplines in St. Stephen’s college.
While going through the cut off list, it is evident that there is high discrimination against students falling under Christian ST category by not calling for interview and written test as the cut off marks have been kept at much higher than the other Christian groups (other than CNI).
The following are some of the references regarding the cut off margins between the Christian Others and the Christian ST which calls for immediate attention and justification:
1.BA Programme
88% COTH
96% CST
2. BA ECO HONS
91.75% COTH
93.75% CST
3. BSC Programme
81.66% COTH
90% CST
4. BA HISTORY
88.5% COTH
93.5% CST
5. BSC MATHEMATICS
82.50% COTH
92.76% CST
6. BA PHILOSOPHY
87% COTH
95% CST etc...
Looking at the huge differences of percentage kept for Christian ST, it is very evident that the college appears to be trying to deprive the deserving Christian ST applicants. There is no rationality how Christian ST and Christian Others differs as far as the teaching of Christianity is concerned.
In fact, by keeping the Christian ST percentage at such high, the college is not only violating the constitutional rights but also violating the ethics of the college/ Christianity by further dividing the Christian community into different groups.
It may be also reminded to your kind office that most applicants falling under the category of Christians Others may be probably from General Category or OBC who are otherwise in much better advantage than the Christian STs as far as their social status is concerned.
Since there is total injustice and discrimination towards the Christian Tribals in cut off marks of the college, we are calling upon your good office to give us clarifying and justice.
In this regard, we request your kind office to kindly look into the matter and do the rectification for safeguarding the constitutional rights and the Christians ethos.
Thanking you.
Sincerely,
Sd/-
