The Manipuri Meitei Association, Bangalore (MMAB), strongly condemns the recent assault on an 11th-grade Meitei girl at St. Agnes College by a group of Kuki sisters from the same institution. As this incident gained considerable social media traction, the MMAB took immediate action.
The MMAB verified the incident and confirmed the college's location in Mangalore and her wellbeing. We ensured the student's well-being by implementing timely safety measures and arranging alternative accommodations.
We engaged with senior Meitei female student and NEPAM members, an association led by the Naga sisters, to create a unified support system. Additionally, we have contacted her parents and her local guardian, Lt. Col, who will act upon arrival. The MMAB Women's Cell Secretary, Binika Pangambam, kept in constant touch with both the student and her mother, offering reassurance throughout.
We are also currently collaborating with the student’s parents to file an FIR, striving to prevent such incidents from reoccurring during these trying times. The MMAB sincerely thanks NEPAM's Naga sisters, Ms. Kaini and Christy Shimray, for their invaluable support. Their presence and companionship provided much needed comfort and emotional relief to the student.
The MMAB also urges all Manipuri students to avail the educational benefits offered by the Karnataka Government during crises and not indulge in any form of violence. We are committed to aiding affected families and students in Bengaluru and nearby areas, ensuring uninterrupted academic pursuits even with our limited financial resources.
The MMAB deeply opposes community-targeted violence, exemplified by the St. Agnes College incident. We actively promote a culture of peaceful coexistence and a positive educational environment where students are molded to create a brighter tomorrow.
