Shree Rajkumar Jhaljit Singh is born on 24th September 1924 at Yaishkul Chingakham Leirak , Imphal.
His parents were Rajkumar Maipaksana Singh and Rajni Devi.
After passing out with MA LLB degree from Calcutta University, Rajkumar Jhaljit works as an advocate for some time.
Later he went on to become the principal of LMS Law College and then hold the position of Controller of Examination of Manipur University.
As a hardcore member of Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, he took major role in promoting Manipuri language, Literature and culture.
From 1975 to 77 Rajkumar Jhaljit hold the position of General Secretary of Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Imphal later on became the President of the said organisation from 1987 to 1989.
Under his guidance, various Manipuri books were showcased at “Manipur Day” held at New Delhi organised under the aegis of Manipuri Sahitya Parishad. Rajkumar Jhaljit also took vital role in convincing the Prime Minister of India to include Manipuri language in the 8th schedule of Indian Constitution.
He continues in promoting Sanskrit language and Manipuri literature.

o A Short History of Manipur (1965),
o A History of Manipuri Literature, Volume 1(1976),
o Kavita Nikunja (Poem, 1996),
o A History of Manipuri Literature, Volume 2(1998),
o Manipur from 1508 to 1709 (1999), and
o Gandhiji gi Hind Swaraj.
He was honoured with Padmashree by the Indian Government in 1999 and Shrimad Paramhans Swami Jogendranand Giri Ningsing Mana 2001 by Manipuri Sahitya Parishad.
In recognition of his contribution in the field of Manipuri literature, Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Imphal in its 83rd annual conference, honoured him with the title of Sahityaratna.
