Quoted Phrases
- Part 1 -

By Hidam Gourashyam *

Mudslinging is neither the intention nor the attempt of the comments of the "Quoted Phrases". The source of these phrases is www.e-pao.net. Validating the credentials of the phrases used is what the comments do in this piece of writing. Readers will find that the quoted phrases are from various people. Hope, the readers will re-analyze the rationality of the comments shared. Comments are welcome from everyone without any discrimination of any sort. But I've one thing to share with the speaker or writers of the quoted phrases I use i.e.

A. Charges against Mulatonu by NSCN (IM)
QUOTED PHRASES

"...dubious character ...again raising his ugly head... voiced against those Naga civil societies... assigned with the typical mission to run down on the rights of the Nagas...a notorious blackship of Naga family... always placed himself in the opposite end of where the Nagas stand and spit venom against his own brothers and sisters, mothers and fathers... so desperate to kill the Naga issue... so desperate to place himself in the status he failed to qualify so miserably... standing by the side of the Kukis... the advocate of the Meiteis... is paid by the Meiteis...is a mere kid yet to learn... to be trained and paid... remains faithful to his masters...Nagas thus look at him with disdain..."
(Source: www.e-pao.net)

COMMENTS

The languages used against Mulatonu are semantically empty and irrational. They can be termed simply as baseless and childish mockeries to demoralize the person. For example, "Ugly head" does not define anything specific unless Mulatonu looks really ugly. I'm not sure how to define ugliness or beauty of anything but I'm sure that no one can define it as well. He also does not become a "black sheep of Naga family" just because he failed to support the ethnic cleansing of Kuki in the early 90s and the ongoing campaign of hatred against Meiteis by Th. Muivah, for a better reason that Mulatonu belongs to a higher set of Nagas called "Human Beings".

However, NSCN (IM) belongs to a family called Racist which is the same family where Adolf Hitler and all the Nazi family belong. In fact, Muivah is a defective element in the family of Human beings therefore he cannot enjoy all the rights enjoyed by humans. He should, therefore, be prosecuted as a Nazi. Yes, beauty lies in the eyes of the beholders. Mulatonu can be "an ugly black sheep" among the big Racist family of Muivah. Again, "Venom" is a relative concept.

Holy water works like acid for devils in movies. And the truth really hurts. The response to Mulatonu itself is the outcome of the holy water that Mulatonu sprinkled on Muivah. The expressions, Mulatonu "fails to qualify" to be a racist and "stand by the side of kukis (innocent humans)" are actually complements that he is a very good human being and sensible man unlike Muivah himself. The phrase "paid by Meites" simply shows hatred and the racist attitude of the writer, otherwise, there is no any data to substantiate the claim.

Besides the use of the cliché like "mere kid yet to learn" shows that the writer is at the lost of words & facts to accuse Mulatonu despite h(is/er) desperate intention to accuse Mulatonu as a defense mechanism for speaking against the ongoing actions of the few communal minded persons among Nagas. The last sentence from the quoted phrases above is very trickily interesting because it creates an atmosphere of threatening to Mulatonu to outcaste him from the Naga society, which is not in the not so mighty hands of NSCN (IM).

Blame game is a game of escaping from one's responsibilities.

B. Mental status of Nagas at times as claimed by NSCN (IM)

QUOTED PHRASES

"...is burning with emotional awakening to face the reality...desire of the Naga people to stand together in this crucial period of Indo-Naga peace process... decided to forgive each and work together as national workers with common objective...painful reality the Nagas have learnt to notice again and again in Mulatonu... are in conflict with the Kukis...forced to settle its account with the Meiteis...an exasperating experience for the whole Nagas..."

COMMENTS

The "whole Nagas" actually means a few sections of racists among the Nagas. The writer is deliberately trying to create an effect of the moving forest against Macbeth (Here, the people Manipur, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh). At the same time, the writer is also trying to fool non-racist Nagas by showing their fake flags of victory. This is a mechanism of war to make the soldiers keep fighting – morale booster mechanism.

The day the soldiers learnt The Art of War, they will hunt for Th. Muivah's head for manipulating their body and mind to commit sins. After all, there are not enough Sundays to wash all the sins committed during ethnic cleansings & extortions etc. Muivah's "Peace process" means "settle its account with the Meiteis" for Meiteis and Kukis are "molestor of Naga's historical and political rights". The ways of settling these accounts are
i. "ethnic cleansing of kukis" because the kukis didn't have enough strength to fight NSCN (IM) in early 90s (claiming that the kukis don't belong to Manipur in history of NSCN (IM))
ii. To torture Meitei by applying multiple sinister acts along the NH-39 – loots, extortions, economic-blocked etc.

The bigger/hidden agenda what Muivah is desperately waiting to see is the day that the Meiteis lose their patience and start a communal riot in Manipur. "Conflict with Kukis" is a carefully chosen word for "killing kukis". People of Manipur have shown Muivah time and again that the people have a better vision of their future than Muivah who is terribly affected with myopia. The "Reality" is that NSCN(IM or Muivah) (not Nagas) needs to decide to "forgive each and work together as national workers with common objective".

The objectives of the section of Nagas that Mulatonu represents and many other Nagas should also be considered to call an objective a "common objective", other than blindly accepting Muivah's objective to be a "common objective." His racist objectives have no place on the earth. Somdal is just a starting point. It is just a matter of time that people finally decide to remove him surgically like cancer. The exposure that Muivah is enjoying at this moment is the brightest moment of a lamp before it burns out for good.

Let Harmony prevail, peace will simply follow it.

C. Revenge against Meitei is the motive
QUOTED PHRASES

"After the dawning of Vaishnavism in Manipur the Manipuris started treating the Nagas and other tribal communities as untouchable," alleged VS Atem
(Source: www.e-pao.net)

COMMENTS

Now, it is crystal clear why the NSCN (IM) used the phrases like "burning with emotional awakening", "molesters of Nagas", "settle its account with Meiteis" etc. People of Manipur understand the motive of Muivah or NSCN (IM), however, it is better to hear from their volcanic mouths than speculating over it. Muivah has been RELIGIOUSLY planning, instigating and training Nagas for decades for this revenge.

However, he fails to realize as a leader that "revenge" is a flawed concept throughout the human history. It will also fail Muivah to become a true leader of mankind. Revenge will never bring peace anywhere mentally or physically. This is what people called "vicious circle". The only way to peace is moving out of this circle. Saying this, I have nothing to deny the historical fact that VS Atem mentioned (quoted phrases).

However, VS Atem should also think about the painful procedure and awful outcomes of that religious conversion that took place in our land. It is high time that NSCN (IM) or Nagas take a deep breath and observe if it is true that Meiteis are equally vexed by that era of conversion. It is also an age of awakening for Meiteis in the valley. I can already a see a renaissance in our land – in language, culture, script, tradition, rewriting the flawed history... It is slow but it's happening, I mean, the rebuilding of our true identity.

A wider reconciliation with mutual love, respect and understanding should be the reality of the moment. Starting from now on, the flawed past can be undone in the future. Revenge will only increase the damage exponentially, followed by exponential weakening of the region. A fractured bone is not deliberately broken as a way of fixing it. It may sound simpler but it is more painful and the damage done to the limb may not be undone. The true healing lies in keeping the bone intake by diminishing the fracture with proper care and proper nourishment.

Realization, Forgiveness and Love are the only things that will bring peace in the region. Not REVENGE!

D. Admission of Ignorance does not guarantee innocence: The genie is out of the bottle
QUOTED PHRASES

"Meiteis are feeling insecure...Still the idea of ethnocentricism is playing a big role among them...In many so-called All Manipur organizations you will be hard pressed to find a non-Meitei member even as a token representative. It is high time Meiteis swallow a dose of humility and see others as their equal --- not that Meiteis are better than others in the first place. The Meitei rooster should no longer think its crowing empower the sun to rise...A message to Christian Meiteis and non-Meiteis. Had Irom been a devout Christian and spent the kind of fasting before the God of the Bible, Manipur would be seeing the light of prosperity and peace by now..."
-- Kevi Meru (May 19, 2010) Manipur is Burning

COMMENTS

The writer already declared in the second paragraph saying that "My knowledge of Manipur is limited". However, she didn't stop dictating the Meiteis about what SHOULD/ SHOULD NOT the latter do. What she SHOULD have done at the very first place was to gather information. Unfortunately, she failed to do so. Instead, she used her prejudices as facts. What Kevi Meru should understand with her limited knowledge was. The writer should reconsider using the imperative "SHOULD" frequently if she really meant to appeal to the people.

"Whereof one cannot speak, thereof one must remain silent." Ludwig Wittgenstein
By no means, there is any need to for me to rewrite the history of tolerance and co-existence of different ethnic groups of Manipur just to show the writer. She just needs to be more familiar with Manipur.

The writer also thinks that Irom Sharmila's fasting for years is useless because she is not a Christian. This statement is hilarious. Being Christian seems to be the ultimate solution to everything according to the writer. Reasons are not the requirement to have a blind faith to anything. Just disabling one's every rational organs serves all the purpose. In that case, the writer is someone who should not to be taken seriously by anyone. She just needs some help.
