Quenched
Moirangthem Minakshi Devi *
After days of building a castle in the air for a downpour,
The miles of unrelenting blue seemingly ashy now.
Clouds billow towards us pushing through the bucolic and town,
Unexpectedly as if some miracles on the earth are to be brought down.
Carried nonchalantly by the strength of the wind.
Oh the green meadow and the smell of rain
The frogs would come out of hibernation and gather in and around the pond
As it pours down on the heated ground
Relieving every bit of agony.
As a cooling comfort surrounds all the pain
Earth sipping in the thistle of Rain
Quenching the thirst of a parched dried land
As nature is refreshed, trees hand in hand.
The farmer's little boy looks up gaily
Who always pondered what had bewitched the sky.
The moist clay releases long lost fragrances,
A dreamy petrichor and the sweet nectar brought ahead of drought.
