Protesters try to storm Manipur Assembly
Seven Sisters Post | Yumnam Rupachandra, Imphal (July 10):
The ongoing Manipur State Assembly session became target of two different groups on Tuesday after they tried unsuccessfully to storm the session.
The first wave of agitation came from the students demanding implementation of Inner Line Permit system, over which a Joint Committee has been campaigning. Students bearing placards and banners approached the new Assembly complex at the Chingmeirong from two directions—Nagamapal on southern side and Dinku Road on the eastern side. However police stopped both the rallies and disbursed the students.
In another development hundreds of Village Defence Force, gathered at Khuman Lampak sports complex and tried to take out a rally towards the Assembly complex but was preempted by the state police who converged on them even as the rally was snaking its way out of the sports complex.
