Protest for inclusion of Meetei in ST list at Guwahati
Guwahati, 29th November, 2021
The ST status demand of Meetei in Manipur formally initiated in 2012, following that Ministry of Tribal affairs have sent notice on 29th May 2013 to the Government of Manipur to send back special recommendation along with Ethnography report and Socio-economic survey report. However, there is no action taken by the both previous and current Government.
World Meetei Council (WMC) along with 16 Civil Society Organizations have taken the cause of ST status demand of Meetei and called for 72 hours general strike in Manipur from 25th to 27th Nov.
WMC has urged Hon’ble CM of Manipur to release the pending report to the Ministry of Tribal affairs without further delay.
The WMC Assam State unit has demonstrated sit-in protest on 29th Nov’21 at Manipuri Basti Club field, Guwahati where around 100 Manipuri people living in Guwahati gathered and submitted memorandum to the Hon’ble CM of Manipur urging to send the relevant reports to the Ministry of Tribal affairs at the earliest.
The sit-in protest will be continued in other part of the country.
