Prof. A Surjalal Sharma elected 2017 Fellow of the American Physical Society
I am to bring it to your kind notice that Prof. A. Surjalal Sharma of the Department of Astronomy, University of Maryland, College Park, MD 20742, USA has been elected a 2017 Fellow of the American Physical Society (APS) by the APS Council of Representatives upon the recommendation of the Forum on International Physics (FIP).
In a letter intimated in this regard by the American Physical Society dated 2nd October 2017(copy enclosed), the President of APS Laura H. Greene stated that it is a prestigious recognition by his peers of his outstanding contributions to Physics. The citation that will appear on his fellowship certificate is:
For pioneering and sustained contributions to non-linear dynamical modelling of non-equilibrium phenomena in space physics and to the development of data-enabled science and for his leadership in fostering international collaborations
Professor Surjalal Sharma was born in Brahmapur (Bamon Leikai), Imphal. His main interests are Space Plasma Physics and Nonlinear Dynamics. Current efforts include magnetospheric physics, comets and stellar variability. Previously he has contributed to the theories of laboratory plasma devices at Cornell University, Physical Research Laboratory, Ahmedabad, and Institute for Plasma Research, Gandhinagar, India.
Professor Sharma is also the Director, Research Institute of Science & Technology (RIST), Imphal, Manipur.
