Probe into Imphal bridge collapse
Times of India | Guwahati (July 16):
Manipur public works department has instituted a departmental inquiry into the cause of the recent collapse of a newly constructed bridge over Lishang Hiden moat in the Kiyamgei area of Imphal East.
Irate locals, who immediately closed the bridge, contended that the authorities concerned did not take into account the lack of quality control during construction period of the bridge. Though the bridge is yet to be inaugurated, people began using it since January. Members of various local clubs of the area, who set up a joint action committee in connection with the incident, also put a ban on further construction of the ongoing Lishang Hiden project.
