Power corridor: MoEF seeks data from Manipur

The Ministry of Environment and Forest (MoEF) has sought details of forest data from Manipur government for granting clearance for a long “power corridor” between Assam and Manipur.
Sources in the Ministry of Environment and Forest told Seven Sisters Post on Thursday that they are contemplating to allocate 135.82 hectares of forest land to the Power Grid Corporation for a 400 KV double circuit transmission line between Silchar and Imphal. As the majority of the forest area falls in Manipur, the ministry has sought its clearance.
The ministry has asked the Manipur government to furnish the details of the number of bamboo bushes and trees to be felled for laying the new transmission line. T he land proposed for the transmission lines contains 3,157 trees and over 2,000 b amboo culms, the officials claimed.
