Poor coverage of disability certificates worries DoNER
Times of India | TNN | Jun 17, 2012, 05.13AM IST
The Union DoNER ministry on Saturday expressed concern with the poor coverage of disability certificates in the region. While the Union ministry of social justice and empowerment say there are at least 7.42 lakh disabled persons in the northeast, only 29.7 per cent of them have disability certificates according to the DoNER ministry.
"The poor distribution and coverage of disability certificates is a major concern. The state governments are yet to notify medical authorities for decentralized issuance of disability certificates. The states are also not sponsoring sufficient proposal of schemes. We need to stress on these issues to address the various problems faced by the disabled of the region," said Ghatowar.
