Leirang Mirang: The Blooming Web announced the launching of www.taptamusic.com on the 31st December, 2007. The website is a resource for fans, individuals and groups interested in knowing the Tapta music phenomenon in Manipur since its first music album ‘The Power of Attraction’, 1996.

The website’s resources include Biography, Discography, Lyrics, Concerts, Band Members, Interviews, Awards, Gallery, Analysis and Fan Club. On the day of the online launch, Leirang Mirang founder member and writer Ozzyjane said, “The idea of making a resource website for Tapta and its kind of music had been on our minds for a very long time.

With so many fans in and outside Manipur, we formed an informal group with just one objective in our minds: a website that has almost everything on Tapta, the band as well as Jayanta, the person behind Tapta. Now we have done it and have launched www.taptamusic.com.”

Designed to reflect the dynamism of Tapta’s fearless spirit, Leirang Mirang took over seven months to research, write and develop the website. “We were all Tapta fans and most of us have not even met each other but the spirit of the team was so great that everybody chipped in with contributions. And the result is for all to see. I still feel the website is incomplete but with over 800 hits starting from the 8th of December 2007 till today, we thought even if we make some mistakes here and there, it is worth launching it. And believe me, we are not hard core paid professionals with the jobs we did that include writing, designing and coordinating.” says the designer of the website, Cyberdura who is also the founder member of Leirang Mirang.

From the Biography to Lyrics and Analysis, the website covers Tapta’s world of music in a politically, socially and economically troubled region. There are reviews of almost all the music albums of Tapta released so far in the Discography section besides an online radio with some songs.

Akhu, writer, musician and another founder member of Leirang Mirang says, “Tapta’s music and unorthodox lyrics can be classified as new genre on its own. Tapta is one of the first bands that broke the traditions and conventions in the popular music culture of Manipur. The band or Tapta Jayanta’s music epitomizes modernity with a traditional core. He uses folk tales, folk songs blended with Rock and Roll expressing a barrier free spirit.

“Ringo, another member of Leirang Mirang and a music enthusiast also feels that a musician’s life in Manipur is not rosy and there is the need to promote both the young and old who are into serious experimental music. “We felt the urge of to let Tapta’s voice be heard by a larger audience than the current one. In these days of difference, Tapta is bold enough to speak out the truth from among the muted lot. We found that voice in Tapta besides his music that appeals to everyone. We are also lucky that we, the members of Leirang Mirang, bumped onto each other and started working on www.taptamusic.com. The most amazing thing for me is that I have never met the rest of the four guys with whom I constantly exchange mails and talk over the phone across thousands of miles. It is common love for Tapta’s music and concern that binds us.” says Ringo.

The team members behind the website said they are planning to expand and develop the website in future adding many more features.
