AFSPA and the Political Conflict Resolutions of Manipur and North East
PR from MSAD (Manipur Students' Association Delhi)
Ref. No.: MSAD/PS/20091202-1A
Dear friends, we need to understand what does the five decades old Indian democracy really meant to us. Indian state speaks of super power in terms of Economy, Defence and of its Political system though the democratic questions of the peoples living in the northeastern region have been under suppression. We are being suspected, discriminated and differently dealt with from the rest of India.
Many of you must be aware of the fact that there has been serious suspicion and concern over the intensifying scale of historically deep rooted political instability in the northeastern region and the character of state terrorism in dealing with it. The provisions of what are being referred to as democracy for the people of India have become meaningless to those who are badly affected by the prolonged reign of terror under the provision of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act. The AFSPA by definition stands as the clearest indication of the politics of ill treatment and oppression.
Friends, as we know the victims of AFSPA and the civilized peoples across the globe who strive for peace & democracy have strongly articulated that AFSPA resembles the official and formalized morality and behavior of the colonial politics and administration as reflected in the Armed Forces Special Powers Ordinance 1942. The AFSPA has been facilitating an acute strategic operation to prolong and perpetrate the repressive character of the imperial regime. Straightly and openly, the Indian rulers have been adopting the totalitarian domination over certain population behind the credence of such Act. In short AFSPA suppresses democratic rights and oppresses peoples.
At this gravest situation under the institutionalized terrorism perpetrated by the state we endeavored to move forward with our movement for DEMOCRATIC judgment and call upon all of you to strive together towards peace. We want peace. We want democracy. We want peaceful and democratic solution to the political instability. Repeal AFSPA and initiate political dialogue.
Victory to Peoples' Movement
Long live democracy
