Invitation Meeting
Dear Friends,
Manipur Students' Association Delhi (MSAD) takes this opportunity to remind you the month long tense situation in Manipur, marked by civil protest and police repression, following the murder of Dr. Th. Kishan, Y. Token ad A. Rajen on 17 February 2009 after they were being kidnapped on 13.
As a result of intensified demand for justice spearheaded by the People for Justice (JAC Against Brutal Killing of Dr. Th. Kishan, A. Rajen and Y. Token) and similar efforts by individuals and civil societies within Manipur and beyond cutting across community and regional boundaries, names of the culprits who were physically involved in the murder were identified on 22 February and names of suspects were reportedly recorded by subsequent inquiry committees. While it is hopeful that the CBI, which had been investigating the case since 3 April, would come up with a report we would like to remind you that the response by the government, which is indeed slow, is a result of collective initiatives by civil societies and progressive individuals.
As of now the families of the victims, the Peoples for Justice and several others in Manipur are apprehensive that the CBI report may not result into justice implementation unless there is continuation of consistent collective pressure upon the government to deliver with justice. The People for Justice, in this regard has submitted that, "the purpose of our letter is to request you to organize an interface with civil organization that has good knowledge of such kind of movements, particularly in Manipur.. to institute a fact finding team to get to the bottom of the truth behind the gruesome murder. By taking due consideration of the wide spread public resentment prevailing in the state, we strongly feel the need of a fact finding team consisting of various civil organizations cutting across community line. We anticipate your prompt action."
MSAD, having considered positive aspects of the proposal, and acknowledging the significance of collective role in the Condolence of 22 February and Candle Light Vigil of 7 March, would like to request individuals and organisations in Delhi to kindly take part in the meeting to be held on Wednesday, 6 May 2009, at 4 p.m. at the Open Air Theatre, behind Central Reference Library, Arts Faculty, University of Delhi (North), Delhi – 7.
