The LM’s message "Go Free and Open Source: You will learn better, it will cut costs, help you innovate and tap the world wide resources" went down well with all the participants.
On the first day, students representing the nine districts of Manipur lit up the ceremonial lamp. In the ego-less spirit of Linux, the event had no chief guest, everybody was a VIP.
Over 18 technical presentations, Linux installation demos, online programming contest, quiz and IT Talent Search were the highlights of the two-day event. Beside speakers from Linux Manipur and Manipur University, there were others from DOEACC and ITCTC. Special invitees on the occasion were Dr H Nandakumar, Pro VC and Uttam Chand Laishram, Director of Dept of Science and Tech & IT, Manipur and many teachers and lecturers.

Free and Open Source Software is a term given to a collection of software which falls under two different category 'Free software' and 'Open source software'. Contrary to the general belief, free software does not mean software that comes free of cost. Free here means freedom and the liberty that a user gets in using software.
