PRESS RELEASE
Dispur, August 11, 2008
In an emergent meeting held on 10th August 2008 at its Office premises, the members of the Gauhati Manipuri Social Organisation, Dispur strongly condemned the conspiracy of the Sports Authority of India to stop
L. Monika Devi, the lone weightlifter selected to represent India in the Beijing Olympic Games 2008.
The eleventh hour withdrawal of a member of the Indian Contingent on a most cowardice manner shocked all the sports loving people of India in general and Manipuris in particular. Playing politics in search of Sporting talents will negate the development of Games & Sports in India.
Manipur is a very small sensitive boarder state and depriving of talented players while representing India in International level have been seen in past also. The attitude of such nepotism & favoritism of few vested interest not only hamper the sporting spirit of the tiny state but also it may bring a far reaching consequence to the general public of the State.
GMSO demands CBI enquiry of the whole conspiracy to stop L. Monika Devi to represent India in the Beijing Olympic and book the persons responsible to restore confidence of the people of the state.
GMSO further appeals to all the sports Administrators and High Officials to stop political game while selecting Indian Contingent at International level so as to bring laurels for India avoiding such recurrences in future.
