Art of Textile: Manipuri Textiles from Bangladesh and Myanmar Launching Ceremony

Launching of the book - "Manipuri Textiles from Bangladesh and Myanmar" of eminent Manipuri artist, author and researcher Mr. Mutua Bahadur of Manipur State, was held on Friday, 04 September 2009 at Prabartana, ADDA in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The book launching ceremony was organized and sponsored by SHILLEIKON-A Creative Centre on behalf of the author at Dhaka in Bangladesh. Professor Dr. Enamul Haque, an eminent scholar and former President of National Crafts Council of Bangladesh (NCCB), Chairman and Academic Director of the International Study of Bengal Art as Chief Guest, Mr. Shahid Hussain Shamim, President of the National Crafts Council of Bangladesh, eminent Crafts and Textile Designer Mr. Chandra Shekhar Shaha graced the launching ceremony as Special Guests.

The auspicious ceremony was chaired by Mr. Taorem Robin, Founder and Chief Executive of SHILLEIKON, Vice-President of Bangladesh Handicrafts Manufacturers and Exporters Association, a national trade body under Ministry of Commerce and Secretary General of the National Crafts Council of Bangladesh, an affiliated body of the World Crafts Council. Many local elites, dignitaries and a good number of Manipuri community people reside in Dhaka attended at the book launching ceremony. All the distinguished speakers were discussed on the book elaborately and highly commended for such a creative and hard tasks made by the author for the future posterity of the Manipuris.
Finally, the book was released by jointly Chief Guest, a Manipuri Women Weaver/Artisan Heigrujam ongbi Ranjita Devi, Taorem Robin and other Special Guests. It may be mentioned here that the ceremony was conducted by Hamom Nanacha, welcome address made by Heigrujam Keshor and author’s message was read out by Wahengbam Rajmoni. At last it was ended with refreshments.
