All Manipur Anti-drug Association (AMADA)
"SELF PROTECTION, SELF RESPONSIBILITY, SELF REALISATION AGAINST DRUG ABUSE AND ILLICIT TRAFFICKING"
With the aim to bring about a drug-free society by putting an end to the harms caused by drugs in every field of life, the General Assembly of the International
Conference Against Drug Abuse and Illicit trafficking held at Vienna in 1987 passed a resolution to observe June 26 as the International Day Against Drug Abuse and
Illicit Trafficking and from 1988 onwards every year June 26 is being observed as the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Ilicit Trafficking.
With the aim to make a society fully aware of its responsibility in eradicating the problem of drug abuse and illicit trafficking, this year too, the United Nations
Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) will observe the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on June 26, 2009 under the theme - "Do Drugs Control Your Life?
Your Life. Your Community. No Place for Drugs." AMADA will very meaningfully organise a rally and public meeting under this theme in this land of ours. Along
with this, the observation will also take place under the themes of AMADA - "Self Protection, Self Responsibility, Self Realisation Against Drug Abuse
ad Illicit Trafficking."
From the last years of the 20th Century till today, the youths who are the future pillars of our society are being drowned in the sea of drugs like Heroin-No.
4, liquor, opium and S.P. capsule giving a severe blow to our society like an epidemic. Many who took these drugs have died untimely, many live suffering the
pains of HIV/AIDS, many women are fighting the battle of life embracing HIV/AIDs which their husbands presented to them as a gift of love, many infants have
entered the world infected with the disease. Drug addicts have cruelly and mercilessly murdered innocent little children just for their small ear-rings.
Drugs have not only been creating obstacles in the lives of many youths who have become drug-addicts instead of taking up physical exercises, sports and education, but
have also been creating obstacles in our march towards development and change day by day. Fearing that our society is being destroyed by drug abuse and illicit
trafficking and to build an able and strong generation for future, social organisations, NGOs and the mothers in the role of Meira Paibees have been fighting against this menance for many years. The damages caused by drugs in the society is very vast and as the need for a separate organisation to fight against drugs was strongly felt, the All Manipur Anti Drug Association (AMADA) was founded on December 20, 2005. Since then, AMADA has been taking up many programmes with the help of the people.
Many strong measures have been taken up to prevent drug abuse and illicit trafficking by the Government of Manipur as well as the Revolutionary groups fighting
for independence. There have been instances where drug-addicts and traffickers were shot in the leg and even the death sentence was given to them. Numerous deaddiction
camps have been organised by NGOs, Clubs and Meira Paibees in a joint-effort to cure addictions. There have been scandals in which highly-placed
people and distinguished officers of the security force were involved in the highly profitable business of drug-trafficking.
Remembering the Opium War of China in (1) the 19th century, suspicion lurks in the mind that someone is plotting to annihilate our future generation.
Today, the time has gone to leave matters in the hands of Meira Paibee Mothers, voluntary health organisations, NGOs or the Government. Now the time has come to try our best to carry out our duty to stop drug abuse and illicit trafficking successfully.
In order to make the people fully aware of the strong, storm-like forces coming from different directions, AMADA observed the "International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking" on the 26th June of the Year, 2006, 2007 and 2008 as observed in other parts of the world with the help of the people. This year also, for the fourth time in a row, AMADA will observe the Day on June 26, 2009 along with the a rally carrying messages to stop drug abuse and illicit trafficking. The rally will be flagged off from THAU ground at Thangmeiband and it will pass through - Khoyathjong, PCTC Oil Pump, North AOC, Hapta Minuthong, Tilipati, Lamlong Keithel, Dingku Road, Chingmeirong Keithel, Lilasing Khongnangkhong etc.
After spreading the idea of shouldering our responsibility in eradicating the problem of drug abuse and illicit trafficking, the rally will return to THAU ground where a public meeting will be held.
The clubs and Meira Paibees of various localities and the people of our beloved land are requested to encourage the participants of the rally which will carry slogans
like - "Let's save our society from drugs", "Leg's build an able and strong future generation" - by giving them a warm welcome. All the people of our beloved land
in different professions are invited to the public meeting to be held on Friday, the 26th June, 2009, the 4th day of Engel to make it a grand success.
"Prosperity to our motherland"
"Let's not forget that we all were once a child too, needed someone to take care of ourselves. So let's lead every child in all that's everything is true and
pure"
