The army today revealed that the Manipur-based rebel outfit, the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), had links with Maoists and was training the activists.
“We have reports that militant groups of the Northeast like the PLA has links with Maoist cadres and are giving them arms training,” GOC 57th Mountain Division Maj. Gen. Binoy Poonen said on the sidelines of an arms surrender ceremony at the army headquarters here today. United Tribal Liberation Army (UTLA) cadres laid down arms at the event.
Gen. Poonen said there were no Maoist training camps in Manipur because Maoist cadres found it difficult to enter Manipur because of tight security.
