PC rules out withdrawal of ILP from NE
Assam Tribune | New Delhi, May 4
Union Home Minister P Chidambaram has categorically ruled out the possibility of withdrawing the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system from some of the Northeastern States in the interest of security.
Replying to a specific demand by BJP MP Tarun Vijay to withdraw the ILP system during a discussion on a calling attention on attacks and racial profiling of students from North East, Chidambaram categorically ruled it out, suggesting that a balance between national security and development of tourism would be maintained.
“The ILP regulations have been relaxed in a number of States but it is prevalent in some States. I think, only last year we have relaxed in Manipur. We have relaxed it in some other States. But the ILP is being constantly reviewed,” he said.
