Online refresher course on mediation
Manipur State Legal Services Authority, in collaboration with the Mediation and Conciliation Project Committee, Supreme Court of India began India’s first 20 hours online refresher course on mediation from today.
The refresher course will be spread over the course of five days, viz., 1st, 3rd, 5th, 6th and 7th of October 2020 and will be conducted through Cisco Webex platform. 21 trained advocate mediators from all over Manipur will be availing the benefits of this refresher course.
After Mrs. Mezivolu T. Therieh, Member Secretary, MCPC welcomed the participants, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Kh. Nobin Singh, Executive Chairman, Manipur SLSA, inaugurated the program and highlighted the importance of mediation in resolving disputes for a state like Manipur. Shri Satish Kumar Arora, Member Secretary, MCPC gave the vote of thanks for this inaugural function.
Three senior trainers from Delhi namely, Ms. Jaya Goyal, Sh. K.K. Mukhija and Ms. Pusshp Gupta will be conducting the said program along with Ms. Monika Jalota and Sh. Deepak Kr. Dhingra (Punjab and Haryana) during the course of these five days; which is being held fully online. In view of the prevailing situation, online mediation and the need to encourage it have also been emphasized.
It is to be noted that mediation or some variation of it, as a mechanism of resolving disputes was pre-existing in Manipur and pre-dates the present legal system. Glimpses of it still can be seen when the locality members try to resolve certain disputes of their locality by mutual agreement and amicably.
It is also a pleasure to highlight that mediation as a means of resolving disputes have garnered huge traction in recent times, with people opting to resolve their disputes (cases pending in courts as well as pre-litigation matters) in an amicable manner, here in Manipur.
Manipur State Legal Services Authority expresses its heartfelt gratitude to MCPC and all the experienced trainers for their prompt response and readiness in organizing this program. Manipur SLSA also expresses its appreciation to the learned and qualified advocate mediators for their enthusiasm and their unwavering support for resolving disputes through ADR mechanism.
