On false letterhead of Thadou Inpi-General Headquarters (TI-GHQ

1. Apropos to the recent release of “FOR GENERAL PUBLIC CLARIFICATION & REMINDER” on a false letterhead of Thadou Inpi-General Headquarters (TI-GHQ) vide No. NIL dated December 28, 2023 and published in various newspapers, the Thadou Students’ Association, General Headquarters (TSA-GHQ), hereby clarifies that the term of office of the TI-GHQ for the tenure 2019-22 had expired in June, 2023 and therefore at present, the TI-GHQ is defunct and most of its executive members had resigned with the end of the term.

2. However, to our utter shock, the recent press release in the name of TI-GHQ was found to be the handiwork of one Mr. Lamminthang Kipgen, ex-President, TI-GHQ. He had done that for his own vested interests and political motives. Therefore, all concerned are hereby informed that until TI-GHQ is duly reconstituted, any statement made in the name of TI-GHQ is to be dismissed as null and void. Thus, in the absence of the functional Thadou apex body, the TSA-GHQ is forced to take up the general affairs of the Thadou tribe until TI-GHQ is reconstituted.

3. That, it is also to be clarified that there is no apex body of the Thadou tribe other than the Thadou Inpi (TI-GHQ) and that the Thadou Tribe Council (TTC) was renamed Thadou Inpi (TI) at the Thadou Conclave, Delhi-2015. Therefore, any illegitimate claim of re-establishment of the TTC in Lamka by some vested individuals to cause confusion in the community should not be entertained, as there is no such organisation to represent the Thadou tribe at any level.

4. That, it is further clarified that the TSA-GHQ's term for 2020-2023 ended on March 31, 2023. However, on February 28, 2023, during the 65th TSA General Assembly, the house unanimously resolve to extend the TSA-GHQ's tenure for an additional six months until September 30, 2023, in view of the mega Hun-Thadou Cultural Festival, 2023 in April 18-19, 2023.

Following this, the Election Commission of the General Headquarters (ECGHQ), TSA-GHQ, with the Chairman, Permanent Council, TSA-GHQ as the Returning Office–cum-Chief Election Commissioner, ECGHQ, TSA-GHQ conducted the general election of the Central Working Committee (CWC) of the TSA-GHQ for the tenure of 2023-26 at the 66th TSA General Assembly held on September 28-29, 2023, in Guwahati.

Therefore, the election of the incumbent members of the CWC, TSA-GHQ, is as per the norms of the TSA Constitution, which is legally valid and legitimate. Thus, the terming of the incumbent leaders of the TSA-GHQ as self-appointed is only a desperate attempt to malign and defame the image of the grand old Thadou Students’ Association and its able leaders.

5. Therefore, at this crucial point in the Manipur crisis, we, the Thadous, are counselled to exercise great courage, discernment, and wisdom in the best and larger interest of the community and in protecting the villages, the land, and social harmony.
