North East Olympians to star in integration campaign
The Telegraph | Nishit Dholabhai | New Delhi,, July 14
A campaign on the Northeast’s sporting achievements will paint major cities of India starting in New Delhi on Sunday. As part of an elaborate national integration campaign, the government has helped with huge hoardings in New Delhi and Calcutta, Bangalore and Hyderabad, Pune and Chennai carrying photographs of Olympians from the region.
“We hit on the idea when some creative people were discussing the arrest of young people from the Northeast by police during a Tibetan protest,” said Mayank Jha of Delhi-based agency Basics Concept and Marketing that has handled campaigns for the Northeast earlier. At the genesis is the general lack of awareness in India about its Northeast and a raging debate on discrimination against people based on physical appearance.
