Nehgipnao met UNHCR chief in Malaysia; presented a paper in Thailand
Nehginpao Kipgen, a political scientist and general secretary of the U.S.-based Kuki International Forum, had a meeting with Richard Towle, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Chief of Mission in Malaysia and other officials in Kuala Lumpur on November 26.
A wide range of issues pertaining to refugees and asylum seekers were discussed during the meeting. Kipgen, who has conducted academic research and extensive writing on Myanmar and Southeast Asia, briefed the UN officials the ongoing political transition and its challenges in Myanmar. Kipgen had a similar meeting with Dominik Bartsch, UNHCR Chief of Mission in India on November 17 in New Delhi.
The young political scientist had also presented a paper entitled “Democratic Transition and the Role of Youths and Young Adults" at an International Congress on November 22. The international congress was held in Phucome Hotel, Chiang Mai, Thailand from November 20-23.
Kipgen, who is currently in Kuala Lumpur, will visit Singapore before travelling to New Delhi via Bangkok.
