National Education Day observed at Babupara, Imphal
All Manipur Muslims (Meitei Pangals) Welfare Association (AMPWA) observes National Education Day in commemoration of the Birth Anniversary of Moulana Abul Kalam Azad , the first Education Minister of the Independent India.
The function organised by AMPWA at its office at Babupara, Imphal at 8 a.m. was attended by the Manipur State Minorities Commission Chairperson Shri A Halim Chowdhury, IAS(retd.), Former MPSC member Shri M A Sattar, IAS(Retd.) and AMPWA President Prof. M A Janab Khan as Chief Guest, Guest of Honour and President respectively.
A symposium competition for college students on the life and works of Moulana Abul Kalam Azad was also held in connection with the observance. Out of 11 students from various institutions participated in the competition, Th. Zingo of D M College of Arts stood first position, K. Miraj Shah and U. Ningthoukhomba of the same school stood second position while Konsam Nirmala stood third position.
The service rendered by Moulana Azad in bringing a remarkable change in the Indian Education System was the main highlight of the key note address delivered by Dr Syed Ahmed, Assistant Professor of History in Lilong Haoreibi College.
Moulana Abul Kalam Azad also known as the Great Akbar of the Independence struggle was the Minister of Education in free India and sponsor of an Official history of the 1857 Rebellion, referred to the two communities of the Hindus and Muslims standing shoulder to shoulder to liberate themselves from the British yoke.
