NSUI takes to the streets against Gadkari remark on Manipur
Times of India | TNN | Mar 8, 2012, 07.41AM IST
Around 100 protestors belonging to the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) took out a protest rally on Wednesday in the city.
The students' union, affiliated to the Congress, staged the rally in front of the BJP office here to raise their voice against the alleged disparaging remarks made by BJP president Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday. Gadkari allegedly said, after the results of the assembly polls in the five states of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Manipur, Goa and Uttarakhand were declared on Tuesday, that Manipur doesn't even count in the national scene.
"What the BJP president said on Tuesday was not only an insult to all the states in the northeast, it also shows the real face of the BJP. We won't tolerate step-motherly statement from any political party and statements such as this are an insult to all those who live in the northeast region," said Partho Partim Bora, NSUI president.
