NSCN-IM dithers over accord meet
The Telegraph | Nishit Dholabhai | New Delhi, July 17
The vexed Naga issue is passing a trough again as uncertainty prevails over the attendance of NSCN (Isak-Muivah) at a reconciliation meet of Naga rebel outfits being planned later this month. The group had also not attended a meet of the Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) held in Chiang Mai, Thailand, in May this year with the other NSCN and Naga National Council (NNC) factions.
This is significant in light of the Centre’s consistent stand that a lasting solution is possible only if the various Naga outfits are on the same page, which the government knows is difficult.
This time, the FNR is understood to be organising the meeting in India but it is unlikely that the NSCN (I-M) will attend. Muivah has blamed Kitovi’s allegedly unsavoury comment at a joint programme of the two outfits at the NSCN (I-M)’s Hebron camp for the group’s annoyance. "We don't know yet about attending the meeting," a senior NSCN functionary said.
