NE stranded at refugee crossroads : Defence Secy visits Manipur
The Telegraph | Khelen Thokchom | Imphal, Oct. 2:
Defence secretary Ashok Kumar Gupta today visited Manipur's border township of Moreh, apparently to assess the law and order situation in the area in the wake of the Rohingya refugee crisis.
Official sources here said the visit was "unannounced" and the central official, who arrived here yesterday and left for Nagaland today, stayed in a hotel here. He visited Moreh, a border trade centre, 109km south of Imphal city and in Tengnoupal district, by road.
"He arrived here around 1.30 this afternoon and visited Namphalong market in Myanmar, just across Moreh. He did not stay long and did not meet anyone," a source in Moreh said over phone.
