Folk artistes from across the Northeast showcased their unique cultures by performing their traditional art forms at the North East Folk Dance Festival. A large number of enthusiasts of folk cultures thronged the venue at Basar in West Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday to witness the cultural extravaganza.
The major attractions of the festival included Pongcholom dance of Manipur, Gharia dance of Tripura, Shadmastieh dance Meghalaya, Holo-Holo of Nagaland, Bihu dance of Assam, Cheraw of Mizoram and the lesser known art forms of Arunachal Pradesh – Jajin-ja of the Bokars, Chengu of the Lisus and Sacklok Tawang of the Nahs.
The festival, organised by the local administration with support from Dimapur based North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC) under the Union Ministry of Culture, was projected to provide a common platform to the folk artistes of NE region for showcasing their folk art forms.
